How to Blog a Book
So you're wondering how you can build a profitable self-publishing business and blog at the same time?
Here's how you do it. Focus your keyword research on optimizing the book title on Amazon. Focus the content, chapters, and sections of the book on optimizing for keywords on Google search.
Optimizing for Amazon
Amazon's search engine values the keywords in the title and description much more than Google. This is because Google's crawlers actually go into the website pages and read the metadata for relevance. Meanwhile, Amazon's algorithm's decision to whether or not to rank you on the first page is largely based on what you put in the title, as well as the customer's response to your book in the form of reviews and ratings.
When optimizing for Amazon, make your main keyword a big general niche, but include a secondary target keyword in your subtitle or title as well to rank in different places more competitively. A lot of people will search for the general keyword, if multiple of your books show up for the keyword, then you've established a brand. Your main keyword should be in a profitable niche. Your second keyword should be in a sub-niche that is less competitive.
Including the keyword in the title and metadata will help with initial rankings. As customers leave reviews, though, the main keyword becomes less and less important because Amazon will learn more about what your book is actually about through its customers.
Optimizing for Google
The reason why is because we optimize the content of the book for Google is three-fold.
- It's actually what people want to know about the topic because they search for it on Google
- It will allow you to easily outline your book, outsource the writing if desired, and split the book up into blog posts if you wish
- It will allow you to differentiate yourself from all the other books on the market that just copy each other's table of contents
